ENERGY
EVOLUTION HUB

NORTHSTAR’S ENERGY EVOLUTION HUB WILL SERVE THE ENERGY TRANSITION BY PRODUCING GREEN HYDROGEN AND AMMONIA FOR DOMESTIC AND GLOBAL MARKETS.

Our Energy Evolution Hubs will be designed to produce both blue and green hydrogen and ammonia.

BLUE HYDROGEN

Hydrogen is produced from reacting natural gas (CH4) with high temperature steam (H20) and the CO2 emissions are captured and stored and utilised.

GREEN HYDROGEN

Powered by renewable solar energy, an electrolyser is used to split water (H20) into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2).

Project Polaris

Solar Station

Project Polaris aims to be a grid-connected solar photovoltaic station to generate renewable electricity, and to fuel production of green hydrogen.

Project Cosmos

Gas Development

A large undeveloped coal seam gas (CSG) resource in Queensland, Project Cosmos will serve domestic and export gas markets as well as fuel production of blue hydrogen.

Our Energy Evolution Hub aims to produce green ammonia.

More than 80% of the world’s global production of ammonia is used for fertilising agricultural crops. It’s also used for the production of explosives, refrigerant, plastics, synthetic fibres, explosives, nitric acid, and intermediates for dyes and pharmaceuticals.

A typical modern ammonia-producing plantconverts natural gas, into gaseous hydrogen via steam reforming. The hydrogen (H2) is then combined with nitrogen (N2) to produce ammonia (NH3) via the Haber-Bosch process.

A key challenge in developing the hydrogen economy comes from the high cost of transportation. Northstar’s focus to produce both green and blue ammonia, is firmly based on the thesis that ammonia will comprise the bulk of future hydrogen transportation given its lower production costs and the ease in transport compared with liquefied hydrogen. Ammonia can be used directly as a fuel for vehicles, ships or in power plants or it can be reconverted into hydrogen.
